John Haynes Technical Advisor

 

Retiring from the Sheriff’s department in 2001 after 19 years of service, John Haynes barely had time to break out his fishing gear before CBS hired him as technical consultant on their new series CSI:Miami. 

Haynes admirable career began with the United States Air Force.  After serving six years as a Law Enforcement Specialist, Haynes left with an honorable discharge and attended the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy.  Upon graduation in 1982, Haynes worked as a field training officer for the patrol division.  In 1986, he was promoted to detective and was transferred to the street gang unit in South Central Los Angeles where he worked for 3 years.  In 1989, Haynes changed direction and went undercover to investigate prison gangs.  Promoted and transferred to the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau in 1990, Haynes became one of the youngest homicide investigators in the department’s history.   An investigator on hundreds of crime scenes, Haynes is able to pull from his vast experience when advising the cast and crew.  In 1995, Haynes got another promotion and made his final move to the Sheriff’s Bomb Squad where he remained as a bomb technician and arson detective until his retirement.

In addition, Haynes was an instructor for the Post Blast Investigation School where he taught FBI agents nation wide how to process and collect evidence from bombing scenes.

 Over his years of service, Haynes has received numerous commendations: The White House President, George W. Bush Commendation for Career Record of Service and Accomplishments; The California State Capitol, Governor Gray Davis Commendation for Exemplary Service; Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Commendation for Dedicated Service; Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, Commendation

 for Distinguished Public Service; Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Sheriff Leroy Baca, Commendation for Distinguished Career Service; Los Angeles County Arson/Explosive Detail Dedicated Service to the Bomb Squad Community and International Association of Bomb Technicians  Investigators, Dedicated Service to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Field.

 Born and raised in Southern California, Haynes now makes his home in Florida with his wife Krista.
