Season 5 - Episode 17 - A Grizzly Murder

Horatio stands in the Everglades over the ravaged body of Dennis West.  Buddies Andy Kelso and Rob Harris are clearly shaken as they stare at his body, mauled to death by a grizzly bear.   Alexx finds vanilla gel, AKA “bear lure,” on West’s jacket.

 Kelso and Harris explain to Horatio and Wolfe that they and West are college buddies who signed up for a “man-cation” -- an adventure vacation for men.  Delko and Wolfe follow a scent-detecting MiniRae device through the glades to Billy Chadwick’s shack.  Chadwick says he sold the bear lure to “man-cation” guide Chuck Greene.  Greene tells Calleigh he put the bear lure on the trees to lure bears, but certainly not on West.  Alexx and Calleigh notice an imprint of Harris’ rifle butt on West’s bruised knee.  

 Calleigh and Dan Cooper discover blood -- and twenty-three year-old stripper Anna Sivarro’s MP3 player -- in the hunters’ swank hotel suite.   Natalia and Delko find twenty-two year-old stripper Tess Gowan’s blood in Kelso’s car, while Calleigh and Chuck Greene discover Tess’ dead body in the Everglades.   Delko matches the blood from the hotel room blood to Tess, and her bodyguard Rocco Robertson.   Kelso and Harris tell Horatio that Dennis killed Tess, but they plead ignorance regarding Rocco’s death.  Calleigh and Wolfe find Rocco’s body near the hotel under a bunch of palm tree fronds; he had been stabbed to death.  Feathers from West’s torn vest protrude from Rocco’s wounds.  Alexx swabs Kelso’s semen out of Tess’ mouth.  Kelso confesses to Calleigh that Tess actually died when he sat on her chest, not at West’s hands.  Kelso also claims that West stabbed Rocco and wanted to go to the police, but Harris hit him with his rifle and the bear finished West off.   Kelso and Harris are arrested.

 Horatio finds Anna Sivarro in a hotel room with a client ... Miami’s Supervisor O’Shay.  Anna had loaned Tess her MP3 player and asked Tess to work for her so that Anna could finish her music demo.  Horatio vows to help Anna start a new life, and to prosecute a smug Supervisor O’Shay.  O’Shay threatens to cut the CSI budget if Horatio doesn’t back off.
