Season 5 - Episode 18 - Triple Threat

Horatio looks down at the body of Dominic Whitford, pierced through the chest by a glistening shard of ice from the sculpture upon which he fell from a second-story balcony during the fundraising luncheon hosted by he and his wife, Ashley, who weeps nearby in disbelief. 

 As the ice stalagmite melts, Alexx discovers a bullet hole in Dominic’s chest ... the real cause of his death.  Delko and Wolfe find the murder weapon -- a .38 revolver -- and drops of blood in the upstairs bedroom from which Dominic fell.  Calleigh and Natalia identify the .38’s owner as wealthy trust fund gen-X’er, and Ashley’s ex-boyfriend, Neil Massey.  Massey tells Horatio that his gun was stolen.  Natalia identifies some of the bedroom blood as Ashley Whitford’s.  Ashley explains the drop of blood away by saying she suffers from occasional nose bleeds.  When Delko runs after her with her forgotten sunglasses, he observes Ashley entering the passenger side of a sports car driven by a woman who is her double.

 Calleigh questions Ashley and Cayla, Ashley’s twin sister.  The twins deny killing Dominic but admit to occasionally switching places.  Ashley couldn’t have children so Cayla got pregnant for her and had Dominic’s son Noah, by cesarean birth.  Alexx tells Calleigh that the dead body is not that of Dominic Whitford, but instead a plastic-surgery-enhanced look-alike.  Josh Brockner, Dominic Whitford’s assistant, explains to Horatio that the real Dominic received death threats so they hired Greg Ramsey to undergo plastic surgery and to pose as Whitford from time to time.  Horatio questions the real Dominic Whitford at his construction site and discovers the mutilated body of Dominic’s ex-assistant, Mia Graham.   Natalia discovers that Ashley has no cesarean scar and that Cayla was in Africa when Noah was born.  So who is Noah’s mother?   Beth Selby, Ashley and Cayla’s identical triplet sister and Noah’s mother, enters the room and reveals herself.   The women admit that Cayla shot and killed Greg Ramsey, thinking it was Whitford.  The triplets plan to inherit Dominic’s money is foiled, and they all face jail time for the plot.

Horatio arrests Josh Brockner after finding his fingerprints on the blade used to chop up Mia.  Josh wanted Mia’s job with Whitford, and murdered her after she let him know he’d never get it.  Dominic plans a new life with his son.
