CSI: Miami

"Horatio Caine"  (David Caruso)

An arson and explosives expert, Horatio Caine left New York and the bomb squad to take over the CSI labs after Megan Donner stepped down.  He was haunted for years by the death of his brother, Raymond, a Miami Dade narcotics officer who was abusing crystal meth at the time of his murder.  Horatio has worked hard to keep his feelings for Ray’s widow, Detective Yelina Salas, in check.  At the end of Season Three, Horatio’s suspicions that Raymond may indeed be alive are confirmed.  Horatio reunites Ray with Yelina and their son, then sends them off to South America to escape revenge.  Without a family or intimate relationship of his own, Horatio remains a tireless crusader for what he views as “his city,” spending off hours poring over scientific articles to better understand the criminal mind.  As a three-dimensional thinker, Horatio is more comfortable on a crime scene than in the lab, always reminding himself that the cases aren’t about him, but about the victims.  His professional mantra is “We never close.”

Season Four was “business as usual” for Horatio, after saving his brother’s life and helping Ray obtain safe passage to Brazil at the end of Season Three.  However, when Eric Delko’s sister, Marisol, enters his life in Season Four, Horatio finds love and fulfillment which is soon swept away when Marisol is gunned down at season’s end – by a drug lord who is extradited to Brazil.  Season Five opens with Horatio in Rio De Janeiro, seeking justice for his wife’s killer and a sense of closure for himself.  Reunited with family members there, Horatio becomes more deeply involved in the Brazilian drug lord’s game when Ray Jr. becomes a “mule” for the thug’s international heroin smuggling operation.
